The search is on once again for this year’s top 10 outstanding children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) which is sponsored by a local bank.
As stated by Natividad Alejo, executive vice president of the Bank of the Philippines (BPI) on Friday:
“We recognize the significant roles and sacrifices of our OFWs. We extend this recognition to their families as we continue to honor their children who excel in their studies despite being distant from their parents.”
Hence, the sponsor bank, BPI, officially announces its opening of the nationwide search for Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children, which is on its 8th year.
According to BPI, prospective applicants must:
– be a college student not more than 21 years old (at least a four-year college course)
– have parents with current work contract abroad
– have no failing grades and should belong to the Top 10% of their class, level, or batch
Qualified students may then fill out the application form online, which requires personal information and contains an essay-writing portion. Additional guidelines may be downloaded here.
The 10 students will be awarded in various categories. A grant of PhP50,000.00. is at stake.

Through this endeavor, BPI wishes to instill pride within the Expat Pinoy children, helping them realize the magnitude of their parents’ contribution to the country, but more importantly, to their future. It aims to inspire the children to achieve their dreams, which are the driving force of their overseas parents’ sacrifices and endless diligence. This also serves as an added motivation to our Expat Pinoys, and validation as parents to see their children excel and be honored in a prestigious award. The Search also seeks to reach out to the public’s consciousness for them to fully grasp the value to the community of the Expat Pinoys and their families.
