The Filipina in Kuwait, who stabbed her employer, will be assisted by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is already providing all means of help to the domestic helper from Maguindanao. They also kept a constant communication with the Kuwaiti authorities who are investigating the case.
“Our Embassy in Kuwait continues to look after our kababayanUlambaiSinggayan and is coordinating with authorities to ensure that her rights are protected,” says Sarah Lou Arriola, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs.
Ulumbai and her family here in the Philippine have our assurance that the DFA will provide her with legal and other assistance that she may require,” she further said.
Arriola also said that the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait immediately sent their men to look on her case as soon as they learned from it.
As per the initial information, Singgayan was beaten by her employer’s family after she stabbed the latter. The Filipina was furious after her employer threatened to revoke her visa and kill her after she gets moved to another house.
According to Charge d’AffairesCharleson C. Hermosura, Singgayan got several bruises in the face, arms, chest and an x-ray confirmed that she had internal bleeding in the abdomen.
It remains unclear if the domestic helper was maltreated before the stabbing incident. Singgayan went to Kuwait last February 2017 as a household service worker.
Singgayan is currently under hospital arrest and facing felony charges.
