As the Philippines ushered in another year, a heartfelt celebration unfolded at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 — one that honored the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). On January 6, 2026, 312 OFWs returning from Kuwait were warmly welcomed back to their homeland through the government-led initiative “Bagong Taong Salubong sa OFWs.”
Organized jointly by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the program was more than a routine reception — it was a meaningful expression of gratitude for the invaluable contributions of Filipino migrant workers to their families, communities, and the national economy.
A Warm Homecoming for Modern-Day Heroes
The festive homecoming event brought joy and relief to returning OFWs and their loved ones after a long journey abroad. Titled “Bagong Taong Salubong sa OFWs,” the activity reflected the government’s continuous commitment to provide support, care, and recognition to Filipinos who work tirelessly overseas.
At the forefront of the welcome were OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan and PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles, alongside PCSO officials including Chairman Judge Felix P. Reyes (Ret.) and board members. Their presence underscored the importance of honoring OFWs not only upon departure but also upon their safe return home.
Charitimba: Aid with Heart
A highlight of the program was the distribution of “Charitimba” — PCSO’s specially prepared assistance packages containing essential goods. These packages were handed out to all returning OFWs to help address immediate needs after their repatriation and to ease the transition as they reunite with family and friends.
In his remarks, General Manager Robles reiterated the PCSO’s role as a steadfast partner to OFWs and their families. He emphasized that the agency’s support does not end with their employment abroad, assuring returning workers that government assistance continues as they strive to build better futures.
OWWA also reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to the welfare of OFWs through its array of programs, reintegration services, and welfare initiatives designed to support workers and their families as they rebuild and move forward.
Beyond Welcome: A Commitment to Welfare
The Bagong Taong Salubong sa OFWs event is more than just a welcome home gesture. It symbolizes the government’s recognition and respect for the sacrifices of Filipino workers overseas — a community whose remittances and service play a vital role in sustaining households and the nation’s economy.
By starting the year with this act of appreciation, OWWA and PCSO send a clear message to all OFWs: your hard work matters, your sacrifices are valued, and you are not alone in your journey.
