Filipina Caregiver Killed in Tel Aviv Strike Identified as Mary Anne Velasquez de Vera

A 32-year-old Filipina caregiver has been identified as the victim of yesterday’s missile strike on Tel Aviv amid escalating tensions in the region.

Mary Anne Velasquez de Vera, a Philippine national working in Israel, was fatally injured during what Israeli authorities referred to as Operation Roaring Lion on March 1, 2026.

According to a statement from the Israeli Embassy in the Philippines, de Vera was hurt while helping her patient reach safety during the attack.

“Mary Ann was injured while selflessly assisting her patient to safety,” the embassy said. “This is a stark reminder that the Iranian regime continues to sow terror indiscriminately, targeting civilians without distinction.”

De Vera, described as compassionate and resilient, had been living with the patient under her care. Like many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Israel, she had built her life around providing support to others far from home.

She was formally identified by her husband, who is also an overseas Filipino worker in Israel, together with their family.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog personally conveyed his condolences to Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola, according to the President’s Residence, expressing sympathy over the tragic loss.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by foreign workers in conflict zones, including thousands of Filipinos employed in caregiving and other essential sectors across Israel.

Further updates are expected as authorities continue to assess the impact of the attack.
