The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has announced the opening of 10,000 additional scholarship slots for qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and seafarers.
According to OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, the expansion became possible after the agency’s trust fund reached ₱21.3 billion, the highest level recorded in its more than four decades of service.
Previously offering around 15,000 scholarship slots, OWWA increased the number by another 10,000 this year, following a directive from Bongbong Marcos to extend greater educational support to OFW families.
OWWA Scholarship Programs
OWWA administers three major scholarship programs:
1️⃣ Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP)
Provides up to ₱60,000 per school year until completion of a college degree.
Incoming freshmen are selected through national qualifying examinations conducted by the Department of Science and Technology.
2️⃣ OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP)
Grants ₱20,000 per school year to qualified dependents enrolled or planning to enroll in a Philippine-based college or university.
The required monthly salary threshold for OFWs will follow guidelines issued by OWWA during each application period.
3️⃣ Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP)
Designed for deserving migrant workers and their immediate descendants pursuing degrees in priority courses, especially in science and technology.
