Filipino-American Soldier Among Those Killed in Drone Attack in Kuwait

A Filipino-American U.S. Army Reserve soldier has been identified among those killed in a drone attack in Kuwait amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, from Sacramento, California, was among six U.S. Army Reserve soldiers who died after a drone strike hit an area near Port Shuaiba in Kuwait, according to the Pentagon.

Marzan was assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command based in Des Moines, Iowa, and had been deployed to Kuwait in support of the U.S. military operation known as Operation Epic Fury. Authorities said he is believed to have died at the scene when the drone strike occurred.

Born to Filipino immigrant parents, Marzan dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the United States military. According to reports, this deployment was expected to be his final tour of duty, with only a few months remaining before his planned retirement.

The tragic loss has deeply affected both the American and Filipino communities, especially those who recognize the sacrifices made by soldiers serving abroad.

In a statement, California Governor Gavin Newsom honored Marzan’s service, calling him a “courageous Californian whose service to our nation was marked by honor and distinction.”

“The sacrifices made by military families are immeasurable, and California stands in solidarity with them, united in grief and gratitude,” Newsom said while offering condolences to Marzan’s wife and family.

California Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla also expressed their sympathies, extending their thoughts and prayers to Marzan’s loved ones and the Sacramento community mourning his loss.

Out of respect for his family, a U.S. Army spokesperson said additional details will not be released until the medical examiner completes a positive identification.

Marzan is remembered not only as a dedicated soldier but also as a loving husband and father. He leaves behind a grieving wife and son.

His life and service stand as a testament to courage, loyalty, pride, and honor.

Across the Filipino community worldwide, many are paying tribute to Marzan, honoring him as a kababayan who served with distinction.

As messages of condolence continue to pour in, many offer prayers for his family and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice he made in service to his country.

Rest in peace, Chief Warrant Officer Robert M. Marzan. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
