MANILA / HAIFA, April 7, 2026 — A Filipino woman was among four members of a family killed in a missile strike that hit the northern Israeli city of Haifa on the evening of April 5, 2026, amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a statement, the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines expressed its deepest condolences over the tragic loss, which claimed two generations of one family.
The victims were identified as Vladimir Gershovich, 73; his wife Lena Ostrovsky, 68; their son Dmitry (Dima) Gershovich, 42; and his wife, Lucille Jane Gershovich, a 29-year-old Filipino citizen. Dima and Lucille were married in April 2024.
According to Israeli officials, the family was killed in what was described as an Iranian missile strike that struck their residence. The incident has drawn renewed attention to the risks faced by civilians in conflict-affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Filipino national, confirming that the victim died alongside her husband and elderly parents-in-law during the attack.
The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv has already informed the victim’s family and is extending full assistance, including efforts to facilitate the earliest possible repatriation of her remains to the Philippines despite current travel challenges in the region.
In addition, the department is coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure that the bereaved family receives the necessary support during this difficult time.
The Israeli government also conveyed solidarity with the grieving family and the Filipino community, honoring the victims and mourning the loss of a Filipino life.
Both Israeli authorities and Philippine officials noted that the family has requested privacy as they grieve.
The DFA, together with the Filipino community, called for prayers for the eternal repose of the victim and for strength and comfort for her loved ones in this time of profound loss.
The tragic incident underscores the continued vulnerability of overseas Filipinos living in areas affected by conflict.
May their souls rest in peace.
