The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all qualified senior citizens, both in the Philippines and overseas, receive the benefits outlined in Republic Act (R.A.) No. 11982 during a ceremonial signing led by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) with partner agencies, held in Quezon City on November 27, 2024.
The ceremonial signing was attended by representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Commission on Overseas Filipinos (CFO).
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) expressed its strong support for the efficient distribution of benefits through the Elder Living System, a program designed to address the needs of thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay and Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi participated in the signing ceremony, highlighting the significance of this initiative.
“Senior Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) embody both sacrifice and success, inspiring future generations,” stated DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi. He emphasized that, alongside the National Commission for Senior Citizens and partner agencies, they are dedicated to offering financial assistance and comprehensive support for the well-being of these individuals. CFO Undersecretary Ma. Arlene S. Borja echoed this commitment, reinforcing the government’s pledge to prioritize the welfare of elderly Filipinos globally.
During the meeting, the DMW collaborated with the National Commission for Senior Citizens (NCSC) to discuss the roles and responsibilities of partner agencies in implementing legislation aimed at supporting senior citizens. Key provisions include a cash gift of ₱10,000 for senior citizens celebrating their 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays, as well as a substantial ₱100,000 for those who reach 100 years of age. To enhance the efficiency and systematic delivery of these services, the initiative will also incorporate the Elderly Data Management System (EDMS).
As part of the DMW’s 10-Point Agenda, the department is committed to creating specialized programs for senior OFWs. This initiative will focus on addressing their unique challenges and ensuring they have access to the resources and support tailored to their specific needs. The DMW expresses its sincere appreciation to the NCSC for the partnership aimed at providing Senior Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) with access to government programs and services tailored specifically to their needs.
