Filipina Domestic Worker Found Dead in Tai Hang Home

A 34-year-old Filipina domestic helper was found lifeless early this morning inside her employer’s flat at 28 Tai Hang Road, Hong Kong, after reportedly taking her own life.

According to initial police reports, the victim was discovered hanging with a 4-meter plastic rope. Her employer immediately called authorities at around 7:14 a.m., prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene. Despite efforts to revive her, she was declared dead on-site.

The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) confirmed receiving the report from the police but stated that further details are still being verified pending official investigation results. Police noted that no suicide note was recovered at the scene. However, initial findings indicated that the victim had been experiencing emotional distress due to family debt problems.

Authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Assistance for Distressed Migrant Workers

The tragic incident has once again highlighted the mental health challenges faced by many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) abroad.
Officials from the MWO reminded Filipinos in distress that help is available through various hotlines:

  • MWO Hotline: 6345 9324

  • Philippine Consulate (Assistance to Nationals Section): 9155 4023

  • Mission for Migrant Workers (NGO Hotline): 9529 2326

The Consulate and labor authorities continue to urge migrant workers to seek immediate help if they are struggling emotionally or facing financial difficulties.

This case serves as a painful reminder of the silent struggles many OFWs endure. Authorities and support groups are encouraging the community to look out for one another and promote open conversations about mental health and well-being.
