Domestic Labor Affairs Call to Resolve Filipino domestic Workers Issue

Domestic labor affairs specialist Munir Al-Usaimi stressed the importance of addressing the shortage in domestic workers across the country. This is according to the Al-Seyassah newspaper. Al-Usaimi revealed that he discussed the matter with acting Kuwaiti ambassador to Ethiopia Nawaf Al-Mutairi as well as a number Ethiopian officials. He stated that a Kuwaiti delegation, including the Public Authority for Manpower and the owners of domestic work offices, will be traveling to Ethiopia on the 27th May to sign the final contract on the sending of domestic workers to Kuwait.

He confirmed that domestic labor offices would be able, a few weeks after the signing of the agreement to bring Ethiopians to Kuwait. He stressed that these workers would be tested for physical and mental diseases. Any worker who is found to have such illnesses will be rejected. He asked HH Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al- Abdullah Al-Sabah, to address the issue immediately of hiring Filipino domestic workers, because these workers are highly skilled and preferable by employers. Their return would greatly contribute to ongoing efforts to resolve the domestic worker shortage.
