Expats in Kuwait Must Earn at Least KD 800 to Sponsor Family Visas

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23 — The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, has approved the executive regulations for the new residency law, detailing updated rules, fees, and requirements for all types of visas and residency permits.

Family / Dependent Visa Requirements

Under the revised rules, expatriates who wish to sponsor their spouse or children must now earn a minimum monthly salary of KD 800.
However, nine professional categories are exempt from this salary requirement.

Residency Renewal Fees

  • Spouse and children: KD 20 per person per year

  • Other family members: KD 300 per person per year

The Director General of Residency Affairs may allow exceptions for:

  • Expats already living in Kuwait

  • Individuals born in Kuwait

  • Children under 5 years old born abroad to parents residing in Kuwait

Professions Exempt From the KD 800 Salary Requirement

  1. Legal researchers in the government sector

  2. Professors in universities, colleges, and higher institutes

  3. Government school staff: supervisors, teachers, social workers, psychologists

  4. Engineers (government and private sector)

  5. Religious workers: imams, preachers, muezzins, Quran teachers

  6. Medical and health professionals (public and military health institutions), including pharmacists, nurses, paramedics, technicians

  7. Media professionals: journalists, correspondents, international news staff

  8. Sports professionals affiliated with government federations and clubs

  9. Funeral service workers responsible for preparing and burying the deceased

These updated regulations aim to support family reunification while ensuring expatriates meet stable income standards, with flexibility provided for essential professions and special circumstances.
