Marcos Honors 2025 Bagong Bayani Awardees: “OFWs Remain the Nation’s Greatest Source of Pride”

MANILA, Philippines — November 20, 2025. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. paid tribute to the outstanding contributions, resilience, and sacrifices of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as he led the recognition of the 2025 Bagong Bayani Awardees in a ceremonial program at Malacañan Palace.

Describing OFWs as “modern-day heroes,” the President praised the honorees for embodying excellence and the spirit of genuine Filipino service even while working far from home.

“Kinikilala ng Bagong Bayani Awards ang kakayahan, karangalan, at kabutihang loob ng mga Pilipino na sa kabila ng pang-i-ibang bansa ay nagagawang maipakita ang tunay na pagka-Pilipino,” President Marcos said.
“Ito ang diwang nais makamit ng aking ama… nang itatag niya ang Bagong Bayani Awards noong 1983.”

Honoring Filipino Excellence Abroad

The President recalled countless moments during his overseas engagements where he heard personal accounts of how Filipinos consistently excel across industries around the world. He expressed deep gratitude to OFWs for uplifting the country’s reputation on the global stage.

Marcos also acknowledged the emotional burden and daily struggles of living apart from loved ones—an experience shared by millions of Filipino migrant workers.

Government Efforts to Improve OFW Services

During his message, President Marcos highlighted several government initiatives designed to strengthen OFW protection, streamline processes, and improve service accessibility.

Among these programs are:

  • OFW Travel Pass through the eGovPH App

  • Online Employment Contract Verification System

  • 300,000+ OWWA electronic cards issued to provide easier access to government services

  • OFW Hospital, OWWA Botika, and expanded medical programs

  • AKSYON Fund offering legal, medical, and financial assistance through DMW offices

  • OFW Lounge at NAIA for enhanced travel convenience

These reforms, Marcos said, reflect the government’s commitment to ensure that every OFW is recognized and supported as a hero of the nation.
