New Zealand has opened its doors to Filipinos who want to search for greener pastures abroad.
Jun Macas, president of Australia and New Zealand Association of Employment Providers of the Philippines (ANZAEPP), said they are expecting 30,000 job opportunities in New Zealand. Their organization’s goal is to set aside a huge chunk of those jobs for the Filipino.
There are many job opportunities under the construction sector as workers are needed for various reconstruction projects in Christchurch after a strong earthquake in 2011.
Macas said the income opportunity in New Zealand is higher compared to other countries. The minimum wage is NZ$18 per hour, or around PHP550.
Furthermore, the worker has the option to apply for permanent residency if he has been working in New Zealand for three years. They can also bring their families to New Zealand.
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) deputy administrator Liberty Casco said that New Zealand is starting to become an attractive labor market for OFWs because of its highly developed labor and immigration policies that are protective of foreign workers. Also, there is no strict implementation of the “no placement fee policy.”

I want to go there new zealand to work thank you….
No recognised skills in areas where we have shortages, no chance. I’m supposing from your name that you are a woman. What skills do you have that NZ needs? Don’t need housemaids that’s for sure. Or babysitters.
Hi, i am so interested in applying to new zealand. I am currently working here in kuwait. Can you share to me the steps or agencies affiliated to employment in new zealand thanks
You probably make more in Kuwait than you would in NZ. Unless you have the correct sets of employment skills e.g. are a qualified builder, electrician etc., then you aren’t going to have any success.
i want to apply please..
As what? A housemaid? Ain’t gonna happen sorry. We are a very egalitarian society.
Get your information right. MMinimum wage is $14.75, rents/accommodation is very very expensive if you can find accommodation.
I wish people would tell them the truth about this.
I like to shift New Zealand please guide me thanks
Get on a boat. Head for the North Pole.
I would love to hear your reply about this ad. And I’m willing to send my resume as soon as possible. Just send me and email on how to apply. Thanks!
What ad? There is no ad here… this is an article. A very poorly researched article at that. 30,000 jobs available? Rubbish. That’s just the ANZAEPP talking up the real situation. Don’t believe it. The Christchurch rebuild has peaked and is now in a downward phase. That means those construction jobs they talk about are going to vanish.
And it is garbage that the minimum wage in $18 per hour. It has only recently gone up to $14-75 per hour. And… taxes are taken out of your earnings before you get your pay money. So you will lose depending on how much you earn between 20% and 33% in income tax. Factor THAT into your calculations. Any idea how much it costs to live in NZ? Accommodation in Christchurch is out of this world. Crappy 3 bedroom house, if you can find one, $500+ a week isn’t unusual. Petrol (gasoline) $2+ per litre. Food, oh my, you will probably mess your pants when you see how much food costs.
Am welling to abroad in newzealand
Well you’d need to brush up on your English Mr Lahoylahoy. What you wrote is gibberish.
To all those Filipinos wanting to come to NZ beware… but first a disclosure… I am a New Zealander born and bred. My wife is Filipino and we have been married for 31 years so I have no axe to grind with Filipinos in general. Certain individual Filipinos yes, but that is true across the board.
If you go to Christchurch for the rebuild, which by the way is now slowing down, you will need to find accommodation. Currently in Christchurch for a 3 bedroom home you will be looking at about $500 per week for rent. There have been stories in the newspaper fairly recently where 16 Filipinos were living in a 3 bedroom house. It was cold. It was damp. And a good proportion of the residents had health issues because of the sub standard housing. Filipinos are also being underpaid, forced to pay money out of their wages to “some” of the employers. As stated above the NZ minimum wage is $14.75 an hour so if working for minimum wage (most likely) then for a standard 40 hour week you would earn before tax $590 a week. That equates to $30680 per year and tax removed by the employer before you are paid would be $4389 leaving you with $26291 per year or $505.60 per week. You will need to pay your share of the rent, electricity, gas for cooking if the accommodation has it. Plus your individual costs for transport to and from work plus for shopping. Groceries could easily set you back $150 per week.
So, out of your $505 a week take away board costs of say $150, take away say $50 for transport, and $150 for food and other supermarket shopping. Add on say $50 for electricity costs and you are down to $55 left for entertainment, clothes (it gets very cold in Christchurch in winter), socialising with other Filipinos etc. And… you haven’t even sent any money home yet…
So you can see that it isn’t necessarily a wonderful opportunity.
And we also have a sizeable unemployment sector here as well. And believe me a lot of people will not be happy at Filipinos, or other non NZer’s, coming here and taking away job opportunities. Racism is definitely still alive and well in NZ, with Christchurch being the most racist area in NZ, unfortunately.
Thanks for this… An eye opener.
