Maximum annual salary increase for some workers at KD50

The Ministry of Interior and its social affairs and labor counterpart have agreed to lay down new regulations to prevent manipulation of work permit and driving license procedures as a measure to reduce traffic congestions. This came in a recent meeting between Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh, Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Abdullah Al- Muhanna and Director General of the Public Authority for Manpower Jamal Al-Dousari.

A source disclosed the officials agreed on the need to limit the issuance of work permits for company representatives (mandoub) and to fix maximum annual salary increase for some workers at KD50. They deliberated on the situation of expatriate workers, driver’s license and professions relating to them, especially the procedures for changing profession and salary increment. He said the meeting led to an agreement that only companies with 25 workers or more will be allowed to hire representatives.

He explained the companies with lower number of employees can give one of their workers an identity card for “temporary representative” until they complete certain procedures at the labor departments and the General Department for Immigration.

He added the officials agreed to disallow amendment of professions at the labor departments when work permits are still valid and documents of cars attached issued to drivers cannot be amended until the drivers change their job titles. He said the officials emphasized the need to reactivate the automation system to enhance implementation of the new regulations to reduce traffic congestions.
