Expats to check the validity of their passports and renew them before they expire

The Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) Director General of the Residency Affairs Department Major General Talal Maarafi said the department is exerting all efforts to develop the systems in order to achieve comfort for citizens and expatriates and ease procedures and transaction processes.

Maarafi said the department will start from Jan 1, 2016 the application of article 12 of the foreigners’ residency law 17/1959 and article 15A of the implementation rules of law 640/1987 which states that the “residency period should not exceed the validity of the passport of the foreigner.”

Maarafi appealed to expats to check the validity of their passports and renew them before they expire, then go to the concerned residency department to update the date of their passports. He also appealed to citizens to check passports of those under their sponsorship so that they do not violate the above mentioned law. He said that the interior ministry asked the foreign ministry to inform all embassies in Kuwait about the procedure and start renewing passports of their citizens if the validity of the passports is less than 12 months, so that they do not incur fines.
