MANILA, Philippines — April 17, 2026
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has formally urged Omani authorities to remove the requirement for Filipino travelers to present a negative HIV medical certificate prior to entry into Oman.
In a statement released Friday, the DFA said it has made “strong representations” to the Oman Embassy in Manila, following concerns raised by Filipino travelers regarding the policy.
According to the embassy, the requirement currently applies only to tourists entering Oman under visa-free arrangements. It clarified that Filipinos holding valid work visas are not covered by the rule.
The Omani government is now reviewing the policy, with a meeting scheduled next week to further discuss the requirement and possible revisions.
Despite the issue, the DFA expressed optimism that the matter will be resolved favorably, citing the longstanding diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Oman.
“The DFA expects a positive outcome given the good and strong relationship between the Philippines and Oman,” the agency said.
The development comes amid growing calls to ease travel requirements for Filipinos, particularly overseas workers and tourists in the Gulf region.
