Filipinos top remittance charts with Pakistanis and Indians

OFWs, along with expatriates from India and Pakistan, are the biggest money senders in the UAE. The three nationalities remitted a total of $20.2 billion in 2014.

Indians took the lead in the list by remitting $12.6 billion, Pakistanis $4.1 billion, and Filipinos $4.1 billion.

Other remitters include expatriates from Bangladesh, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and Yemen.

A report released by Kuwait Financial Centre Markaz also showed that expatriates from Pakistan are the second biggest remitters, sending a total of $4.1 billion in the same period.

Expatriates from the Philippines took the third spot, with $3.4 billion in remittances.

Government has proposed to tax the remittances of expatriates in UAE. However, money transfer operators have opposed this because it will discourage foreigners from pursuing job opportunities in the country.
