Filipina Sold To Another Employer After She Got Sick For a Day

A year of hell-like life was experienced by an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Kuwait. She was hoping that her work abroad will bring joy and end the financial struggles of her family, but her dreams were gone in a flash.

The series of misfortunes of Taya started last October 2021.

“Pumasok po ako sa isang Kuwaiti at nagtrabaho ako dun ng walong buwan,” said Taya in an interview.

“Pagkalipas ng walong buwan, nagkasakit ako ng isang araw. Basta na lang po ako pinaalis ng amok o. Hindi ko alam dinala niya ako sa bagong amo,” Taya added.

Taya was sold for KD1,900 (PhP370,000). This amount is far from Taya’s salary which is about PhP20,000 per month as a domestic helper.

“Pagkalipas ng dalawang linggo, ni rape ako ng bagong amo ko,” says Taya.

For three days, she asked for help through social media. But her pleading was not heard. After a couple of days that Taya didn’t receive any help, she decided to escape. Taya went to a shelter that houses distressed OFWs.

Before going to the shelter, Taya reported her employer and he was arrested. However, the employer got out of prison easily.

“Hindi siya nakulong. Samantala ang sabi niya sa akin noon makukulong yan habang buhay. Death penalty yan, sinasabi ko sayo,” Taya related her conversation with the lawyer from the Philippine Embassy.

Even when Taya was already in the shelter, her life didn’t become easy. Fortunately, Taya arrived in the Philippines safely.
