Kuwait Permits Part-time Work in The Private Sector

The First Vice Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Talal Al-Ahmad al-Jaber, Al-Sabah has released a decision allowing part-time work with third parties, provided the employer approves.

Accordant to this decision, an individual can work part-time for another employer for up to 4 hours per day, provided they have a permit for part-time employment from the Public Authority for Manpower. Due to the market’s demand, contracting is not subject to this daily limit.

The new directive will be effective at the start of next year. It aims to maximize the workforce to meet market demands and to support the National Committee for Demographics exemption goals. It also aims to use the Kuwaiti workforce as an alternative for new recruitment to address demographic imbalances, and to meet the labor market’s current needs.

Sheikh Talal al-Khaled, in a second directive, instructed the Public Authority for Manpower that employers could authorize employees to work from home, particularly for jobs where the tasks are easily completed even without physical presence. The initiative is in line with established guidelines that protect the rights of employers as well as workers.
