Guidelines : DMW Offers $200 Financial Assistance to OFWs Affected by Middle East Crisis

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced a streamlined financial assistance program aimed at supporting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

During a recent briefing, DMW officials confirmed that thousands of OFWs have already benefited from the initiative, with more expected to receive aid as the application process has now been simplified.

Who Can Avail of the Assistance

The financial assistance is intended for OFWs whose employment has been directly affected by the crisis. This includes workers who have:

  • Lost their jobs (permanent or temporary)
  • Experienced reduced income
  • Faced shortened working hours
  • Encountered work disruptions

According to the DMW, these challenges have become increasingly common due to the ongoing regional instability.

Amount of Assistance

Eligible OFWs will receive USD 200 (approximately ₱12,000) as a one-time financial grant. The fund will come from the government’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) fund.

Countries Covered

The program is available to OFWs working in the following 10 Middle Eastern countries:

  • Bahrain
  • Iran
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Oman
  • Qatar
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Requirements for Application

To make the process more accessible, the DMW has reduced the documentation requirements. Applicants must submit:

Basic Documents

  • Accomplished Request for Assistance Form ( Please check with your host country MWO Facebook page for updates)
  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of overseas employment (e.g., contract, visa, or labor card)

Proof of Impact (Any of the following)

  • Certification from employer indicating reduced salary or work hours
  • Payslip showing salary reduction
  • Notice of termination
  • Visa cancellation (if applicable)

Flexible Documentation Policy

To further assist OFWs, the DMW allows:

  • Self-declaration (sariling salaysay) if formal documents are not available
  • Certification from Filipino community organizations (FILCOM) confirming reduced work or income

This flexibility ensures that even those with limited documentation can still apply.

Simplified Application Process

The DMW emphasized that the revised guidelines—originally issued on March 30 and recently updated—are designed to make the process faster and easier for affected workers.

However, the agency also assured that all applications will still undergo proper verification to comply with Commission on Audit (COA) requirements, as the funds come from the government.

Government Commitment to OFWs

The initiative highlights the Philippine government’s continued commitment to protecting and supporting OFWs, especially during times of crisis.

With thousands already assisted, the DMW encourages eligible workers to apply and take advantage of the financial relief available.
