Two Filipino Arrested In Kuwait After Rescuing Abused OFWs

Two Filipino were arrested by the Kuwaiti police following illegal rescue of household workers who were allegedly abused by their employers.

It can be recalled that the Philippine government has banned the deployment of domestic helpers to Kuwait because of the recent gruesome incident where a Filipina domestic helper was found dead inside a freezer which was abandoned for almost a year. The ban is still active as of the moment.

According to reports, the two arrested Filipino tried to convince the domestic helpers to leave their abusive employers.

Kuwait summoned the ambassador to the Philippines over malicious comments which was reported in a local press in the country. According to reports, the embassy is conducting an intensive rescue to domestic helpers who were allegedly abused by their employers.

Philippine Ambassador Renato Villa said that the embassy is willing to rescue abused OFWs if the Kuwaiti authorities fail to help within the next 24 hours.

Villa haven’t issued an official statement as of the moment.

The rising number of abused and maltreated OFWs, some even ended up lifeless, caught the attention of President Duterte. He then implemented the total deployment ban and will only lift the ban once the Kuwaiti government signs an agreement securing the welfare of OFWs in the gulf country.
