MANILA — Three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) injured during the incident at Kuwait International Airport Terminal 1 on June 3, 2026 are now safe and recovering, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
During the OFW Global Summit 2026 press conference held on June 7, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac confirmed that the affected Filipinos were among airport personnel caught in the incident. He also clarified that no Filipino fatalities were reported.
One OFW was hospitalized after suffering from smoke inhalation but has already been discharged from the hospital. Meanwhile, two other OFWs received outpatient treatment for minor injuries.
One of the injured workers reportedly sustained minor wounds on the scalp and arms and is currently recovering at her residence in Kuwait.
Secretary Cacdac assured the public that the DMW, through its Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait, continues to closely monitor the condition of the affected OFWs while extending the necessary assistance and support for their recovery and welfare.
The DMW also emphasized that the Philippine government remains committed to ensuring the safety and protection of Filipino workers abroad, following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to assist OFWs wherever they may be.
Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the airport incident as investigations continue.
