OFW families warned against text scams

Villar SIPAG Foundation in partnership with the Blas F. Ople Policy Center create a   forum entitled “Huwag Magpaloko: as per ABS-CBN news

The senator noted the foundation’s own experience in dealing with a text scam that sent out fake SMS notices about a raffle contest where “winners” were asked to get in touch with a certain person to claim a prize.

Villar’s office reported this scam to the Department of Trade and Industry and various law enforcement agencies.

They also paid for print advertisements to warn the public about the scam.

During the forum, speakers talked to participants about various scams. Speakers also let participants know how they could protect themselves from scams.

The foundation plans to hold similar anti-scam seminars for OFW families in other parts of the country in partnership with the Ople Center.

Villar added to remind as well the families that   “Do not be so trusting especially when dealing with complete strangers.”

They  warned families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against scam artists out to profit from the remittances they receive from abroad.
